As part of its ongoing project community engagement project in in Jabal Qalaa Hamzet Wasel organized a “Discovery and Engagement Day” in Jabal Al Qala’a, where over forty families from all over Amman met to discover a beautiful part of the city, participate in various activities and meet local families.  The Al Qala’a children led a kite making and flying workshop, which concluded with everyone setting their creations into the air at the Citadel. The neighborhood women taught people how to make their favorite sweets, while others participated in design and embroidery workshops. The highlight of the day was a storytelling session about Amman with Al Qala’a’s own oral historian, Abu Ibrahim, who was born in the Jabal and has witnessed its growth and development over the past seventy-five years.

Most of the people who took part in the day’s activities had not previously realized that a community of over six thousand people exists in and around the Citadel, nor had they experienced the beauty of the neighborhood’s architecture, the views it enjoys of the city, or the importance of the sense of social cohesion which still exists amongst its residents.

من ضمن عمل همزة وصل الدائم في جبل القلعة قمنا بتنظيم يوم للتعارف والمشاركة في الجبل حيث قامت ما يزيد عن أربعين عائلة من مناطق عمان المختلفة بزيارة الجبل والقيام بعدة نشاطات والتعرف على أهل المنطقة. يومهنا قام أطفال جبل القلعة بتعليم الزائرين كيفية صنع الطيارات الورقية التي قام الجميع بتطييرها في ختام الفعالية. وبالإضافة الى ذلك قامت سيدات المنطقة بعقد ورشات قصيرة لتعليم صناعة بعض الحلويات وتصميم وتطريز منتجات يدوية. ولكن أجمل ما حصل في ذلك اليوم كان جلسة لأبو إبراهيم – أحد كبار جبل القلعة وقدامى ساكنيها – والذي قام يومها بسرد الحكايات والقصص عن تاريج الجبل ومعايشته له في الأعوام الخمس وسبعين السابقة.

معظم من شارك في هذا اليوم لم تكن لديهم أي فكرة عن كون مجتمع من ستة آلاف نسمة يقطن هذا الجبل، ولم يقوموا بزيارته عن كثب والإستمتاع بالمنظر الجمالية التي يحتويها. ووجدنا تقديرا منهم لما رأوه من تجانس وتوافق بين أهل الجبل أنفسهم.
