For this Heritage Challenge, which was organized in cooperation with Engaging Cultures, groups were specifically designed to mix Jordanian and American students in teams to promote cross-cultural understanding and cooperation in accomplishing tasks on this challenge-based excursion. The day’s first challenge involved purchasing six items for 1 dinar or less ending with the Arabic letter “fah” in downtown Amman.  After this initial challenge, groups had to locate different street vendors and work to sell the different products on the street, which ranged from buttered corn to Ka’ak, giving students the chance to interact with a wide range of Ammanis. Mujadara, and Ghillaya Bandoura were two dishes groups were challenged to chop up the ingredients for when it came to cooking Arabic food and eating lunch in the middle of the day. The last two challenges of the day involved groups locating the historical “Diwan Al-Duke” in Balad, where they received a lesson in different calligraphy styles from a master Arabic calligrapher and mixing their own perfumes at a downtown vendor. To conclude the day, participants received their names written in calligraphy from a master Arabic calligrapher.

هذا التحدي التراثي الذي نفّذ بالتعاون مع Engaging Cultures، صمم ليجمع طلاب أردنيين مع طلاب من الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية لتعزيز التفاهم بين الثقافات المختلفة  والتعاون في إنجاز المهام المطلوبة في هذا التحدي. أول التحديات كان يتطلب من كل فريق صرف دينار أردني أو أقل على شراء ستة أغراض تبدأ بحرف الفاء. من ثم توزعت الفرق لأداء مهام مختلفة في وسط البلد تنوعت بين بيع الذرة من عربة والكعك والحلويات مما مكنهم من التفاعل مع أعداد من الناس الموجودين في المنطقة وإختبار ردود فعل عديدة. بعد ذلك حان وقت الغداء، وكان التحدي المطلوب أن يقوم المشاركين بتحضير أكلتي المجدرة وقلاية البندورة، وقد قاموا بتقطيع وفرم وتنظيف وقلي كل ما يلزم من أجل إعداد هذين الطبقين بشكل مثالي.

بعد وجبة الغداء، أكملت الفرق طريقها نحو تحديين آخرين كانا هما درس في الخط العربي وأنواعه تلقاه المشاركون في ديوان الدوق في وسط البلد والثاني تحدي طلب فيه من كل مشارك خلط عطر خاص به من عطار في وسط البلد. لينتهي اليوم والمشاركين قد حصلوا على عطور من صنعهم وأسماؤهم مخططة بشكل جميل بالعربية بالإضافة الى تجربة فريدة من نوعها.
