Why the name Hamzet Wasel?

Hamzet Wasel is an inflection in the Arabic language, which links two words together. The name indicates connection, interdependency and mutual benefit. While necessary, Hamzet Wasel is often overlooked in the less formal Arabic of today. In that sense, the name also refers to those aspects of our day to day lives that, despite their value, become lost over time, if we are not careful to preserve them.

Why Social Inclusion?

We believe that social inclusion is the single most important factor in creating positive change in our cities and towns. It has never been more crucial in the Arab world to reach out beyond our comfort zones, to connect with one another across socio-economic borders, and to revive and enrich the social and cultural fabric of our communities.

What is a social venture?

A social venture is an undertaking by a firm or organization established by a social entrepreneur that seeks to provide systemic solutions to achieve a sustainable, social objective. Social ventures may be structured in many forms, including sole proprietors, for-profit and not-for-profit firms, NGOs, youth groups, community organizations, and more. In our case, we are registered as a for-profit company under Jordan’s Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Why are you registered as a for-profit?

We are registered as a for-profit to ensure sustainability and access to “no strings attached” funding to invest in the communities where we operare, the social change we are working to achieve, and in other innovative social ideas that we believe in. We believe that for-profit social ventures are the wave of the future and have made a decision to be at the forefront of exploring this new model of funding for social development in the  Arab region.

What is 7-Jar and how is it connected to Hamzet Wasel?

 7-Jar is an urban discovery challenge, inspired by the diversity of Arab cities and their people that brings diverse people together to build authentic relationships with one another and with their cities. 7-Jar is designed and fully owned, managed and run by Hamzet Wasel.

At Hamzet Wasel, we take pride in being a diverse and inclusive community of Arab citizens engaged in social activism and authentic relationship building across the cities where we operate.
